Čoahkkáigeassu:This technical proposal was carried out at the facilities of the Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi campus Salache and focused on repowering the capacitor bank in order to rectify the low power factor that the university had due to the non-linear loads that are installed since the energy efficiency of an electrical system depends mainly on the reactive power compensation that is performed. From the data obtained through the network analyzer, a minimum power factor of 0.42 was observed. The reactive power needed to compensate for this low power factor is 19 kVAr (calculated value). By repowering the capacitor bank (global compensation), a power factor of 0.96 is obtained, and it complies with the ARCONEL regulations in force, obtaining a 17% reduction in the billing cost issued by the distribution company ELEPCO S.A. It also uses an automatic power factor regulator (DCRL8) with its respective communication module that allows monitoring the electrical parameters in real-time, from the Matrix to Salache, allowing to observe the status and behavior of the capacitor bank cabinet through the Xpress software installed in the electrical engineering laboratories.
