Description
Summary:In the present research work, it was possible to identify epilithic diatoms associated with the Trophic Water Quality Index (ITQW) of the Cunuyacu River, Latacunga Canton, Cotopaxi Province. A sampling was carried out in the three study points, identifying a total of 92 species of epilithic diatoms in the three points, of which only the abundant species of each point were used; at point one located in the Juan Montalvo parish, 31 species were found, of which 9 species were more abundant: Achnanthidium minutissimum, Eutonia minor, Lemnicola hungarica, Navicula lanceolata, Navicula tripunctata, Planothidium lanceolatum, Planothidium frequentissimum, Pseudostaurosira elliptica, Pseudostaurosira polonica. At point two located in the La Laguna sector, 27 species of epilithic diatoms were identified, of which 8 species were the most abundant: Achnanthidium pyrenaicum, Gomphonema parvulum, Gomphonema rhombicum, Navicula germaini, Navicula gregaria, Navicula lanceolata, Nitzschia inconspicua, Pseudostaurosira polonica. And at point three located in the Molino’s Poultier sector, a total of 34 species of epilithic diatoms were identified, where 12 abundant species were obtained: Amphora meridionalis, Encyonema silesiacum, Encyonema ventricosum, Fragilaria perminuta, Fragilaria rumpens, Halamphora montane, Halamphora veneta, Nitzschia inconspicua, Nitzschia fonticola, Nitzschia linearis, Nitzschia vermicularis, Pseudostaurosira polonica. To calculate the Water Quality Index (IQW) in the months of november and december, 9 physical-chemical and microbiological parameters were used, which were assessed using the IQAData software, where in point one he obtained a value of 71.71 categorized in the range of “Good”, while for point two the value obtained was 42.21 "Bad" and finally in the third point it obtained a value of 23.77 within the range of "Bad, consecutively the Water Quality Trophic Index and tables were compared; where for point one the theoretical ITQW obtained a value of 2.0 that compared with the ITQW of tables gave rise to a range of β-mesotrophic contamination (moderate contamination); in point two, the theoretical ITQW obtained a value of 3.4 that compared to the ITQW of tables is in the range of α-mesotrophic contamination (strong contamination) and in point three a theoretical ITQW of 2.9 was obtained which compared to the ITQW of tables was found with a level of α-mesotrophic contamination (strong contamination).
