Summary:The following investigation was conducted in the Project of alpaca’s genetic improvement by the faculty of Agricultural and Natural Resources sciences; its objective was to distinguish alpaca fiber. The technique utilized was quantitative, using data obtained from the diameter and length of the fiber; for the production, the data used was from the weight of the fleece. The average diameter obtained of the fiber was of 23.26 ± 2.7µm, in relation with the length of fiber obtained from females of 9.25±1.9cm and males of 9±0; the average fleece weight was of 1.56 ± 0.4kg per specimen, the same which are classified and commercialized by the company Paqocha, where 38% belongs to category 4, 23& to category 5, 19% to category 3, 19% to category 2 and only 1% to category 1. The economic value obtained was of $51,81. This average diameter belongs to the Fleece quality (23.01 – 26.05um).
