Opis
Izvleček:The objective of the research was to develop an economic orthosis for canines with hip dysplasia in the Quito Canton, Pichincha Province in 2021. The research area was located in the Pichincha Province, Quito Canton. The canines were located in: La Loma de Puengasi (1); Algeria (1); La Ecuatoriana (1); Pifo; Guamani (2), Solanda (1), Ferroviaria (1), Caupicho (1); La Salle Valle de los Chillos. The study was descriptive, direct observation, the canines being clinically diagnosed using the Ortelani test. An interview was conducted with a veterinary medical specialist identifying the diagnostic methods frequently used in hip dysplasia. The ten canines were mostly mestizos of advanced middle age, the origin of dysplacia in two canines was genetic, in the others due to falls and accidents. The common symptoms were: Difficulty moving, moving, pain in the hindquarters, immobility in the hind legs. Only one canine received clinical-hospital care, the rest for economic reasons was not treated. The average adaptation of the canines to the orthosis made with local materials was 4 days, there was a progressive increase in the number of steps in all the canines and consequently the hours of daytime rest were reduced. With this orthosis the canines experienced less pain and improved their mobility, the use of local materials reduces manufacturing costs and is an alternative for families who have financial limitations to care for their pets with hip dysplasia.
