Description
Summary:The objective of the present research was to describe the profile of the cultural tourist visiting the province of Pichincha. Descriptive research with a qualitative approach was employed, utilizing instruments such as a guided questionnaire and the Canva platform. The first objective was to systematize the data obtained after the instrument's application. Non-probabilistic sampling was used, and it was necessary to identify the number of tourists visiting the cultural manifestations of the province of Pichincha using data from the Ministry of Tourism for the year 2020. Following this, a formula was determined to obtain the sample, resulting in a total of 384 respondents to be surveyed. To select attractions, digital media and documents were investigated to compile a database of the province's tourist attractions inventory. Within the research, ten cultural manifestations were selected, categorized as level III and further classified by categories, types, and subtypes with the purpose of obtaining the characteristics of the cultural tourist profile. The results revealed that the tourists are primarily Ecuadorians (32%), young adults aged between 17 and 25 years, predominantly male (68%), with 43% being single. In terms of employment, 37% work in public companies. In the socio-economic variable, 44% have a basic salary and a high school education level. They often travel with friends, 40% with those older than 16 years, and 49% with minors under 16 years. Regarding estimated expenses, 49% expect to spend between 0 and $100 on their trip, with 46% spending more on food, followed by 37% spending on transportation. Moving on to the motivational variable, 53% of tourists travel for relaxation, 22% for studies, 20% for visiting relatives, and only 5% for work-related reasons. Tourists enjoy historical centers (41%), churches (24%), and museums (19%). The majority (56%) plan to stay for 0 to 1 day. Information about attractions is obtained by 53% through social media and 40% through websites. 61% travel for tourism purposes during holidays, and 67% have frequently visited the province. In the preference variable, 29% of tourists prefer adventure tourism, and 21% prefer cultural tourism. 60% prefer staying in hotels, 20% in hostels, and only 10% in cabins. 57% prefer the traditional local cuisine, and the same percentage enjoys activities like hiking, while 24% prioritize gastronomy. Finally, 59% prefer using their own vehicle to reach attractions, 34% use public transportation, and only 8% opt for rental vehicles. Subsequently, an informative bulletin was created, encompassing the obtained results of demographic, socio-economic, motivational, and preference characteristics of the cultural tourist. Canva's virtual platform was used for design, and the bulletin includes descriptions of selected cultural manifestations, the tourist profile, and a final section with photographs and an anonymous phrase related to cultural tourism.
