| Summary: | The purpose of this research study was to prepare Sound Pressure Maps for Comparison with the Current Legal Regulations and at the same time develop proposals for environmental noise control in ‘La Matriz’ Parish of the Saquisilí Canton, Cotopaxi Province. For this purpose, a diagnosis of the current situation of the study area and its possible sources of noise pollution was made, then the most critical points of pollution were determined by monitoring the different sites selected within the study area. The research was carried out by using a bibliographic methodology which allowed to obtain valid and reliable information about the area. Field research was also used to involve the author in order to observe and interpret environmental issues more clearly and effectively. A sound level meter was used as an instrument to obtain the values expressed in decibels of each monitored point, then the ArcGIS software was used to express the data obtained in acoustic maps, visualizing the most critical areas within the study area. The results achieved allowed us to identify that the study area is characterized as a mixed type of area, that is, several land uses coexist; it includes a greater proportion of residential land use, likewise it was possible to identify human activities such as road traffic and commercial areas, noise levels were then monitored to identify the most critical areas within the study area. The corrected equivalent continuous equivalent sound pressure levels obtained in the measurements of the monitoring points in the two periods of measurement both in the morning and in the afternoon denote a total non-compliance of 100% of the maximum permissible limits established within the environmental regulations, in this case, the A. Ministerial 097-A, Annex 5 of the Unified Text of Secondary Legislation where ranges between 55 to 60 dB are established according to the residential and commercial area, so it is established actions through the design of a model of noise pollution control being fundamental for the implementation of mechanisms and tools necessary for responsible decision-making within a social field |
