| Summary: | The Gonzales Suárez neighborhood, belonging to the Cantón Saquisilí, is a rural town, where the responsible possession of canines is almost nil and the parasitosis present in canines and in turn the risk that this can cause zoonotic diseases is unknown. Stool samples belonging to 100 canines in the neighborhood were collected, which were subsequently subjected to a coproparasitic analysis in the laboratory of the Technical University of Cotopaxi, applying the Sheather flotation technique (sucrose solution) to separate, concentrate and recover oocysts and eggs belonging to parasites. The results were statistically analyzed, taking as variables the age and sex of the animals, it is also intended to establish the prevalence and identification of parasites within the neighborhood. Where a parasite prevalence of 71% (71/100) was found, being Toxocara canis the one with the highest percentage with 44% (44/100), Ancylostoma with a percentage of 12% (12/100), Trichuris vulpis with a percentage of 10% (10/100) and Cystoisospora caninum with 5% (5/100). According to age, canines ranging from 1 to 5 years old presented 51% (51/100) of parasite prevalence, canines> 5 years tested positive in 13% (13/100) and puppies ranging from 0 to 12 years had a 2% (2/100) prevalence. The results obtained according to sex, the prevalence of 41% (41/100) present in females and 30% (30/100) belonging to males was obtained. Once the parasitic presence in the analyzed canines has been determined, a deworming campaign is applied with the application of a broad spectrum anthelmintic to combat internal parasites of the same, accompanied by an informative talk with the owners so that they have a relevant care with the health of your animals. |
