Περίληψη:In Ecuador and the world, one of the problems that constantly threatens the air pollution, being responsible for it the carbon dioxide (CO2), which is produced excessively in urban areas, so the existence of parks with green areas are essential for carbon dioxide capture. For that reason, we seek to estimate the levels of CO2 captured through the destructive method in 9 species present in four parks in the city of Latacunga. For this an experimental methodology was used and at the same time the application of the method of loss by ignition, thus obtaining the species with the highest estimated CO2 capture to the Cypress with a total of 570.60 Ton/Ha, being this value influenced by the longevity of the species and the number of specimens present; at the same time the species were classified according to their location, being Ignacio Flores Park the park with the highest estimated CO2 capture. Finally, a comparison of the estimated levels was made using the destructive and non-destructive methods, which were not very useful due to an erroneous identification of species and an inadequate count of species.
