Тойм:In the Parish ‘La Victoria’, Pujilí canton, there were made measurements of the atmospheric emissions at fixed sources, as the chimneys of pottery ovens. The aim of the study was to identify the atmospheric pollutants generated by those ovens and propose the realization of mitigation alternatives to reduce those emissions. In this study, a geo-referencing procedure allows to find each fixed source and get the exact location of the chimneys as well. In addition, the type of chimney and the fuel that is used to make the ceramic were taken into account. Measurements of gases such as oxygen, carbon monoxide, nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and hydrocarbons were carried out using ‘Testo 350’ analyzer equipment. The data were compared with the regulations of the TULSMA Annex VI, table 1. It was determined that carbon monoxide (CO) emissions in all fixed sources monitored exceed 1800 mg/m3 stipulated in the regulation whilst nitrogen oxide (NOx) is within the permissible limits. The carbon monoxide is generated by different forms such as the design of the ovens, the humidity of the biomass and the lack of technologies for the use of the fuel, which has generated great pollution by this gas that cause environmental problems and harmful effects in the people’s health. With the obtained results and with the help of a bibliographical analysis, a mitigation procedure has been generated to reduce carbon monoxide pollution (CO), in which a pottery oven design, a solar wood dryer, and techniques for the use of fuels were proposed.
