| Čoahkkáigeassu: | The present investigation focused on the study of aquatic birds on Pucayacu parish, La Maná Canton, Cotopaxi Province. Through the diagnosis of characterization and mapping of water resources, through the use of interviews applied to key actors or people who know the Parish, as primary sources for research; Obtaining as a result that the parish has 13 water resources, four were selected as the main sources for monitoring, since they have micro habitats that allow the influx of birds required during this study. The research areas were established according to the geographic limits of the place. An inventory and photographic record was made, to know the abundance of existing species in the area, as a result 53% are Pelecaniformes, one of the most representative orders in the zones, through the biodiversity index of Shannon, Margalef, Sorensen, tools that determine abundance and distribution of species. Finally, identified the species, we systematized the information and designed the guide that included the following: the guide consists of 15 species which are distributed: in the Quindigua River, Riachuelo Posa Azul, Riachuelo S/N and wetland S/N. This is for capturing the information gathered during the investigation of waterfowl, where people can learn about the avifaunal richness of the parish. As a general conclusion of the research it is important to point out the encouragement in the creation of new similar and complementary projects to the study that is focused on waterfowl, which allow to verify the conservation status of the species through the IUCN website and where they corroborate the real state of insitu area, in this way verify if it is necessary to implement protection measures to avoid the extinction of some species in the parish. As a recommendation, it is important to carry out long-term monitoring programs for a better interpretation of the population dynamics of waterfowl and the possibility of detecting changes related to human intervention. In addition, the results can be used as an excellent environmental education tool and the protocols can be implemented in collaboration with the inhabitants of the region, contributing to the formation of local development in different levels and areas. |
