Description
Summary:This study was conducted at Mr. Fabián Caicedo’s farm, located in Mulaló Parish, Latacunga Canton, Cotopaxi Province at 2920 meters above sea level. The soil texture is sandy-clay-loam with low nitrogen content, high in phosphorous and potassium, and medium or high in micronutrient content. Three nitrogen fertilizers were assessed (f1: urea, f2: ammonium nitrate, f3: ammonium sulphate) with two carrot varieties (Chantenay and Nanco F1), applied to three doses. A 2 x 3 x 3 + 2 factorial arrangement was used through a randomized complete block design and for the significance tests Tukey to 5 % was used. The purpose of this study was the analysis of the following variables: measurement of polar and equatorial diameters, yield and Brix degrees to indicate the treatments assessed after harvesting. The results revealed that V2 (Chantenay) was the best variety with a yield of 138 kg/pn. The best source of nitrogen fertilization was urea, with a yield average of 147 kg/pn. The best dose was d2 with the best yield of 1.39 Kg/pn. Finally, it was determined with cost in mind that the best B/C rate belonged to the following treatment: V2F2D3 (Chantenay + ammonium nitrate + dose 3), with a B/C rate of 1.16. Therefore, ammonium nitrate is recommended as a nitrogen source, and Chantenay variety is recommend for market consumption because of its greater weight.
