| Summary: | Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the communication, social behavior, and interaction skills of a person. It is considered a spectrum, meaning it can manifest itself in many ways and vary in severity. Children with autism may have difficulty communicating verbally or non-verbally, showing repetitive behavior patterns or limited interests, and understanding emotions and social interactions. Therefore, the present research was carried out to describe autism and the academic performance of a girl in the second grade of General Primary Education at the "Jorge Icaza" Educational Unit of the Eloy Alfaro parish, Latacunga canton, and province of Cotopaxi. The project was conducted through a qualitative approach, which helped collect data to understand the reality within the educational context. On the other hand, the type of research was bibliographic and field research since, in this way, it was possible to detail the main features and characteristics of the girl with this disorder. Therefore, the interview technique was used, which facilitated the collection of necessary information through an interactive process involving aspects of communication, and a questionnaire was developed for the child's mother. On the other hand, through an observation guide, the observation technique helped provide concrete and detailed data on what is happening in the child's specific environment, such as social interactions and behavior. The instrument was used to collect information in an organized way; the results obtained through the interview showed that there is no diversity of methodological strategies to apply in class and that most teachers use the same strategies to keep the child's attention. Finally, the research contributes to the strengthening of methodological strategies, which are based on improving the teaching-learning process of students with autism that favors the fine and gross motor skills of the students and, at the same time, facilitates the teacher to teach comprehensively and efficiently, generating an atmosphere of confidence in the classroom. |
