Regarding the diet, analysis of 243 pellets was conducted in the laboratory through dissection, identifying 1141 prey items, belonging to species such as (Rattus rattus, Mus musculus, Microryzomys latissimus), anurans (Pristimantis curtipes), bats (Chiroptera), and five invertebrates (Coleoptera, Dermaptera, Orthoptera, Araneae, Scorpiones). Insects were the most predominant in their diet. Additionally, the variation in the owls' diet in relation to climatological variables such as precipitation and prey availability was analyzed. The first analysis aimed to determine if there were differences among burrows in prey usage, while the second analysis aimed to ascertain if all burrows differed in the usage of certain prey items during the months of September, October, and NovemberLa presente investigación se realizó con el objetivo de conocer la ecología del Búho terrestre (Athene cunicularia) de la Orden Strigiformes de la familia Strigidae en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Cotopaxi ubicado en la provincia de Cotopaxi cantón Latacunga, con un enfoque integral que abarca su censo, la dieta y la variación de esta última en relación con variables climatológicas en los meses de septiembre, octubre y noviembre. El censo del ave diurna se llevó a cabo mediante el método de conteo por observación directa que consiste en hacer 12 visitas in situ y técnica de transecto lineal a un costado de la pista de aterrizaje de aviones dentro del aeropuerto que permitió obtener una estimación de diecinueve individuos de Athene cunicularia por km2 de densidad poblacional, en el campo se logró determinar un total de diez madrigueras en donde habitan alrededor de 3 individuos por cada una de ellas. En cuanto a la dieta, se realizaron análisis de 243 egagrópilas en laboratorio mediante disgregación y se identificaron 1141 presas, pertenecientes a especies como: (Rattus rattus, Mus musculus, Microryzomys latissimus), anuros (Pristimantis curtipes) y murciélagos (Chiroptera) y cinco invertebrados (Coleoptera, Dermaptera, Orthoptera, Araneae, Scorpiones). Los insectos dentro de su dieta fueron los más predominantes.
