Shrnutí:The rivers are essential for human beings; they provide water to the population. Furthermore, they are the habitat of innumerable forms of life. This research took place in November, December, and January, where the Yanayacu River was determined through bio-indicators (macro-invertebrates) and biological indices (BMWO/col, ABI, EPT). The biodiversity index by SHANNON-WEAVER; for which they have delimited three sampling points (P1 - San José neighborhood, P2- San Martín neighborhood. P3- House of Culture). According to the investigation results, there were 837 individuals of aquatic macroinvertebrates distributed in 29 families. The BMWP7col index in P1 has a questionable water quality in P2 a Critical quality. The last one, P3, shows a critical water quality as soon as the index ABI presents bad quality water in the three points. This index is adapted to the anthropic influences and the altitude. According to the EPT index in the three points, they are low-quality waters because this index is calculated with macroinvertebrates' orders sensitive to environmental disturbances. The SHANNON-WEAVER diversity index showed an average of 2.1 for the three points: a medium diversity. The quality water presented by the river according to the nine parameters evaluated by the ICA-NSF determined that the water in P1 is Regular and in P2 and P3 shows a lousy quality since they are in a range of 26-50, while in comparison with the TULSMA book VI, Annex I; Table 3. Acceptable quality criteria for water intended for agricultural use. The parameters that exceed the Maximum Permissible Limits are Fecal Coliforms in P2 and P3, Dissolved Oxygen in P3 Nitrates in the three study points. According to the results and studies carried out in the Yanayacu River, the quality water is in a Critical and Very Critical category. Human settlements, anthropic activities influence these data and discharges of residual waters deposited to the river without previous treatment.
