Тойм:Rivers represent a potential for human survival and species conservation, as well as being a source of water supply for both agricultural and domestic uses. This research work was carried out in the Pachanlica River, Tungurahua province in February 2020, where the water quality was determined by bioindicators (macroinvertebrates) and biological indices such as Biological Monitoring Working Party (BMWP / Col) index, Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Plecoptera Index (EPT), Andean Biotic Index (ABI) and the Shannon –Weaver Diversity and Abundance Index; For this, 3 sampling points were established along the riverbed (outcrop, intermediate channel, and mouth); Subsequently, a comparative analysis of the presence of bioindicators in the Pachanlica river was carried out, based on results reported by studies previously carried out in the place. In the research, 284 individuals of aquatic macroinvertebrates were identified, grouped into 9 families and 9 orders of which, at point (1) outcrop, 90 macroinvertebrates were obtained, while at point (2) intermediate channel the least amount of macroinvertebrates with a total of 34 individuals, on the contrary at point (3) mouth the largest amount of macroinvertebrates with a total of 160 individuals was found; being the Hyalellidae family the most abundant with 47% of the total collected individuals. According to the results, it was evidenced that the BMWP / Col index at the outcrop point of the by bioindicators (macroinvertebrates) and biological indices such as Biological Monitoring Working Party (BMWP / Col) index, Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Plecoptera Index (EPT), Andean Biotic Index (ABI) and the Shannon –Weaver Diversity and Abundance Index; For this, 3 sampling points were established along the riverbed (outcrop, intermediate channel, and mouth); Subsequently, a comparative analysis of the presence of bioindicators in the Pachanlica river was carried out, based on results reported by studies previously carried out in the place. According to the results, it was evidenced that the BMWP / Col index at the outcrop point of the water is in the Doubtful water category, class (III), at the intermediate channel point and the outlet point the water quality is in class (IV) Critical and according to the ABI index in the three points are waters of Poor quality, class (IV), this is due to the sensitivity of the index since it adapts to anthropic influences and altitude. Regarding the values of the EPT index, it remains stable since it presents 36.33% of the total of individuals collected. The diversity and abundance of the Shannon-Weaver Index show an average of 2.56 in the three points, representing a medium diversity index corresponding to an altered environment. With the results obtained in the investigation, it was determined that the water quality is in the Critical category, this by the results of previously carried out studies; wherein the periods April- December 2010 and January-June 2011, 3023 specimens were identified in five points. The BMWP index results in Critical to Very Critical quality waters. On the other hand, the EPT index shows Poor water quality. What determines that the water quality of the Pachanlica River presented variations over time, this is due to the presence of anthropic activities.
