Shrnutí:The research was carried out at the Jatari Unancha Educational Unit, Sacha Wiwa Research Center, Guasaganda Parish, La Maná Canton, Cotopaxi Province. It was based on the need to establish a feasible ethological control strategy for the coffee berry borer (Hypothenemus hampei) in order to be used by small and medium producers in the area. It was evaluated two types of artisan traps which were built with disposable plastic soda containers. Brocap and Ecoiapar homemade traps with two attractants for the capture of the insect. Using a 2x2+1 factorial design with four treatments to be compared: T0 (Control), T1 (Brocap + Coffee mucilage), T2 (Brocap + Sugarcane molasses), T3 (Ecoiapar + Coffee mucilage), T4 (Ecoiapar + Sugarcane molasses), so applying eight repetitions with a total of 40 experimental units at a distance of six meters from each other. Data collection was carried out weekly. In fact, it was demonstrated that the infestation of insects was reduced with the application of artisanal traps, unlike other periods where any type of control was applied. The best result in the capture and effective control for the reduction of the infestation of insects was the T2 treatment (Brocap + Sugarcane molasses) which had a better result on the studied variables in respect to the investigation.
