Özet:Closing the digital divide in municipal governments is essential to ensure optimal job performance of their officials. Today, technology and digital tools are part of everyday life and have become indispensable in public management. Municipal governments that fail to bridge the digital divide may face problems of inefficiency, disorganization and lack of transparency in public management. This research was carried out in the Autonomous Decentralized Government of the canton of El Empalme, with the main objective of evaluating the digital divide and its impact on the work performance of the institution's officials. For this purpose, a field, documentary and explanatory research was carried out and a non-probabilistic sample was established, given the specific criteria, which allowed a more precise approach to the research objectives. Seven departments were identified where the digital divide has the greatest incidence. The municipality of El Empalme faces a generation gap in the adoption of technology, with a majority population between 40 and 49 years old and considerable work experience. Although technological competence is high, barriers are found in the implementation and effective use of digital technologies, especially in the access and sharing of documents online, as well as in the review and approval of electronic documents. This disparity is reflected in a technological competence 12.6% lower than in neighboring municipalities, which affects job performance in digital environments. Resistance to change associated with the age of civil servants, mainly between 40 and 49 years old, also contributes to this generation gap in technology adoption
