Gaia:In the present titling work was focused on the design of a processing line for biodegradable packaging from corn by-products (zea mays). Plastic production continues to be one of the main pollutants worldwide, as well as the lack of use of natural corn residues, which for their eliminat ion cause environmental problems with the emission of CO2 and damage to the soil. In this context, the research aims to identify the influence of starch from maize residues as a raw material in the production of biodegradable packaging in order to optimize the production process by simulating several scenarios. In carrying out the first phase of the experimental study and on the basis of several criteria, it was concluded that the residue with the best starch yield came from the tusa of maize ( a﷩0﷩ b﷩0﷩) using the Nixtamalization method. This starch was mixed with other reagents such as distilled water, acetic acid and glycerin to obtain bioplastic sheets, from which 8 experimental units were generated that were subjected to density, humidity, ash and biodegradability analysis, in order to determine which of them was the most acceptable according to the criteria established in standards such as Ecuadorian Technical Standard INEN 2 542 and ASTM Standard D-5488D. Subsequently, with the respective obtaining the bioplastic was possible to carry out a survey in the area, where he met the market's perception about the product, on the basis of what was relevant studies including the type of machinery, production capacity, necessary personnel and financial study of the plant. This allowed the design of the production line and its optimization through the Flexsim 3D simulation tool. Keywords: pollution, corn, process, biodegradable.
