| Résumé: | The present research addresses the assessment of water quality in the urban public network of the Valencia canton, Los Ríos province, Ecuador, aiming to diagnose potential issues that citizens face regarding water supply. To achieve this purpose, a representative sampling was implemented, followed by a reliability analysis using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, ensuring the surveys' reliability. The second objective consisted of a detailed analysis of physical and chemical parameters of water, such as EC, TDS, Ca, Mg, Na, K, CO3, HCO3, Cl, SO4, NO3, Fe, pH, RAS, and hardness. This analysis adhered to environmental quality guidelines and was compared with relevant regulations, including NTE INEN 1108, WHO guidelines, Ministerial Agreement 097-A, and Annex 1 of TULSMA. The Water Quality Index (WQI) was used to assess and classify water quality, considering a variety of physical, chemical, and biological parameters in the samples analyzed by INIAP. As a result, an excellence classification in water quality during the collection phase was determined. The third objective was to formulate a strategic plan to improve water quality in the urban area of the canton. This plan sought to mitigate and prevent identified problems, contributing to the continuous optimization of water supply in the canton. The research not only provides detailed knowledge of water quality but also proposes concrete actions for its improvement and the guarantee of public health, representing an important step in addressing challenges related to water supply in the Valencia canton, thus promoting safe and reliable access to drinking water for its inhabitants. |
