Summary:The skin abscess is the localized accumulation of pus in the skin that develops as a result of a bacterial infection that causes the accumulation of dead cells and inflamed tissue. The present clinical case study focused on the nursing care provided to the pediatric patient with submandibular cutaneous abscess and the objectives of the study were aimed at evaluating nursing care in the correct treatment and prevention of complications. A detailed description of the patient's medical history, symptoms, results of diagnostic tests, physical findings was made, and through the assessment of Marjory Gordon's functional patterns, a complete understanding of the patient's condition was obtained, facilitating the planning and execution of the care necessary to prevent complications. Nursing interventions included: care and assessment of the skin, monitoring of vital signs, and administration of antibiotics and analgesics as prescribed by the doctor that allowed the infection to be controlled, tissue integrity to be improved, pain to be managed, and promotion of the pattern of healthy sleep. Thanks to the interdependent participation of all the nursing staff, each set objective was met, ensuring that the evolution during their stay in the hospital was favorable. On the other hand, the importance of providing specialized care with quality and warmth, with interventions of timely and specific nursing for each patient.
