| Samenvatting: | Plastic waste management and tax collection are critical challenges for the sustainable development of local governments. This research aimed to estimate the impact of the implementation of tax incentives in plastic recycling as a strategy to improve municipal tax collection in Quevedo. To this end, a mixed methodology was applied that included surveys of citizens, interviews with GAD officials and representatives of SMEs, as well as observation at strategic points of accumulation of plastic waste. The results indicated that the majority of respondents consider factors such as lack of environmental education, a shortage of recycling points, and the absence of strict regulations to contribute to the accumulation of plastic waste. Likewise, there was a high level of support for tax incentives as a tool to promote recycling, highlighting tangible benefits such as discounts on municipal taxes. In addition, a significant percentage of respondents perceive that these incentives can improve tax compliance and strengthen municipal collection, although concerns remain about their long-term sustainability. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the implementation of tax incentives linked to recycling could be a viable strategy to simultaneously address plastic waste management and the optimization of tax collection in Quevedo, as long as adequate planning, communication, and monitoring of the results are guaranteed. |
