| Čoahkkáigeassu: | Drinking water supply systems are established to address both sectoral and societal challenges that affect water quality, with negative repercussions for this resource. Lack of efficiency in drinking water treatment systems has evolved into a problem that increases the incidence of disease and mortality. The objective of this study was to design a water safety management model for the provision of drinking water services in the Administrative Board of the ‘‘Ventanilla Sur’’ district, Ventanas canton, Los Ríos province. To this end, an interview was conducted with the president, 102 user surveys were carried out and analysed using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results highlighted concerns regarding quality assessment, administrative functioning and perception of water-related diseases. Physicochemical parameters were analysed using Anova and Kruskal-Wallis, revealing significant differences in pH and nitrate concentration between the different stages of the supply system, with water quality rated as poor according to the ICA NSF index. Hazards and risks were identified, highlighting 5 very high level hazards at the catchment (2), treatment (1), distribution (1) and consumption (1) stages. High level hazards were observed in storage and distribution, and 1 medium level hazard was observed in the catchment stage, suggesting the influence of anthropogenic factors in the alteration of water collected from deep wells. These findings provide a solid basis for implementing effective management measures to improve water security in drinking water supply. |
