Gaia:Organic gardens favor families’ nutrition by consuming healthy food, while contributing to the conservation of the environment. This study was carried out in the Chugchilán parish, belonging to the Sigchos canton, Cotopaxi province. The objective was to obtain information on organic family gardens in order to establish a strategy to strengthen food security and sovereignty for producers in the study area. The population is made up of 89 producers and their respective families. Once simple random sampling was applied, a representative sample of 47 producers was obtained, to whom an agro-socioeconomic survey was applied. The results obtained show that organic family gardens are managed without technical criteria, producers use their ancestral knowledge in production and are encouraged mainly by self-consumption and the sale of surpluses. The statistical analysis allowed the producers to be classified into four groups: the first one made up of 23 producers and characterized by having cement houses and raising small animals. The second group is made up of seven producers, characterized by not having any level of education and their houses are made of earth and adobe. The third group is made up of 12 producers, who have higher education and are dedicated to public service and community tourism. The fourth group is made up of five producers whose main characteristic is that they are women with primary education. It is concluded that organic gardens serve as an alternative and strategy that helps to promote a nutritious and healthy diet for families, however, producers need to use current techniques of organic agriculture, so it is necessary to undertake a training plan on establishment, management and commercialization of organic gardens for the community
