Resumo:Since gynecomastia is the enlargement of male breast tissue, generally present at the stage of puberty and advanced age; the present study aimed to implement a nursing care process in an adolescent patient postoperative mastectomy plus hemovac drainage for gynecomastia; the importance of postoperative evaluation, previous preparation of the patient and post-surgical education was emphasized. Among the means of obtaining information, the bibliographic and tool review of Marjory Gordon's eleven functional patterns was considered; in addition, the use of the NANDA, NIC and NOC taxonomies, allowing the elaboration of a nursing care plan, with a precise approach to the patient's needs. Nursing interventions focused on pain control, infection prevention and body image concerns. Analgesics were administered as prescribed, the surgical incision was monitored and cared for, the patient was educated on hemovac drainage management, and emotional support was provided to the patient. The results of the interventions were positive; a significant decrease in pain was achieved, no signs of infection were evident during hospitalization, and the patient showed successful emotional adaptation to the physical changes associated with the surgery; this case highlighted the importance of nursing interventions in both physical and emotional recovery in addition to the patient's overall well-being.
