Тойм:Bovine tuberculosis is a zoonosis, whose etiological agent is Mycobacterium bovis that affects cattle as the main host, although it has also been found as a reservoir in domestic animals, wild animals and even man. It constitutes a serious problem in public and veterinary health. The present work was to determine the incidence of bovine tuberculosis (Mycobacterium bovis) by means of the caudal intradermal test (tuberculin) in the canton El Empalme province of Guayas using the PPP-bovis CEPA tuberculin test "AN5" as a diagnostic test. During the investigation, 370 bovines were inoculated corresponding to the north, south, east and west areas, the variables analyzed were the presence of the disease, sex, age, origin and race of the animals. The results revealed that of 370 sampled cattle, 15 (4.05%) of animals positive for bovine tuberculosis were obtained although they did not show apparent clinical signs. Of the 370 cattle studied, 64.88% correspond to races of Mestizo crossing (Brahman x Holstein and Brahman x Brown Swiss), Brahman with 13.51%, Spinning with 13.51% and Jersey with 8.10%, representing the Mestizo breed the largest sampled population. Also of the total number of animals sampled, 1.89% of positive cases corresponded to animals with ages of 2-4 years, followed by animals with ages of 5-7 years with 1.35% and animals of 8-12 years with 0.81%. Tuberculin tests are a basic element to detect the presence of tuberculosis infection, therefore they play a fundamental role in the program of control and eradication of bovine tuberculosis, it is recommended to continue with research.
