Summary:Pulmonary tuberculosis is a public health problem in low- and middle-income countries, and delays in diagnosis and treatment are frequent. Due to their condition and lack of adherence to treatment, some of the most common complications are respiratory failure. For this reason, the present study aimed to analyze nursing interventions in the evolution of patients with acute respiratory failure associated with pulmonary tuberculosis, promoting individualized care using the NANDA, NOC and NIC taxonomies. In addition, Virginia Henderson's fourteen needs instrument was considered for nursing assessment, among which were altered needs related to breathing, feeding, body temperature and environmental safety. Subsequently, care plans focused on prevention and on improving respiratory, nutritional and emotional function were proposed, resulting in the selection of nursing diagnoses such as ineffective respiratory pattern, nutritional imbalance below body needs, hopelessness and ineffective self-management of health. Finally, interventions based on scientific evidence were chosen to achieve the proposed results, in order to improve the patient's condition.
