Determinación de las propiedades físicas y mecánicas de la madera de ochroma pyramidale (cav. ex lam.) urb. (balsa) de tres años de edad.

| Тойм: | The research project was carried out in three-year-old ochroma pyramidale (cav. Ex lam.) Urb. (Raft) plantations in the provinces of Orellana and Sucumbíos, where 6 trees were chosen per locality (treatment), of which which were obtained 3 segments per tree representing the different heights (basal, central, apical), from each log 2 to 4 joists were extracted duly marked for their identification, for the physical tests per segment or section 2 joists were selected giving a total of 36 joists, subsequently 5 specimens were made per joist giving a total of 180 per treatment. The physical properties to be determined were the moisture content, the density in the green and anhydrous state, contractions in its different faces and the radial tangential relationship. For the mechanical tests, 2 joists per tree were chosen at random with a total of 12 per treatment, the parameters to be determined were the resistance to static bending, the compression parallel and perpendicular to the fibers and the Brinell hardness. According to the results obtained, the wood from the province of Orellana has better physical properties, while the wood from the province of Sucumbíos exhibits better mechanical properties. By means of the Tukey test at p> 0.05%, it was determined that there are no significant differences in most cases between the treatments and at different heights of the tree (segments), however some parameters within each trial present certain significant difference between the tree segments, in this way the hypotheses proposed in the research work are neither accepted nor denied. The physical tests were carried out in the soil laboratory of the State Technical University of Quevedo, the samples were previously prepared in a sawmill, while the mechanical tests were carried out in the Central University of Ecuador, the joists made in the field were dried until achieve an approximate 12% humidity, to later be transferred to the testing laboratory of the UCE.
