Summary:Colon cancer is a common disease in geriatric patients, characterized by the abnormal growth of cells in the colon, early diagnosis and adequate treatment are essential to improve the prognosis, therefore, in this case study, it was analyzed in a retrospectively the quality of nursing care provided to a geriatric patient after a laparotomy and colectomy for colorectal cancer. The patient received typical interventions such as: monitoring of vital signs, control of capillary blood glucose, administration of analgesics and antiemetics, care of the surgical wound, antibiotic therapy, hydration, antithrombotic medicine and prevention of pressure ulcers with placement of an anti-decubitus mattress. These interventions led the patient to a stable recovery, but after an in-depth analysis, opportunities for improvement were identified to optimize the recovery and well-being of the nursing home. Based on the patient's clinical history, a comprehensive nursing assessment was developed through the model of Marjory Gordon's 11 functional patterns, determining the specific needs of the postoperative older adult. In this way, using the NANDA, NIC and NOC framework, the They proposed detailed nursing care plans, with a holistic approach, covering the priority nursing diagnoses for the attention and care of the patient under study. Although the aforementioned plans were not directly implemented, they can be considered as a precedent for future care of patients with similar profiles, highlighting the importance of personalizing care and adapting it to the changing needs of each individual, beyond standard protocols. The study concluded with the objectives achieved, demonstrating the need for a continuous review and adaptation of nursing practices, always focusing on improvement and patient well-being.
