Description
Summary:Forests and jungles capture, store and release carbon as a result of photosynthetic, respiration and dry matter degradation processes; are considered to be the terrestrial ecosystems responsible for most of the carbon fluxes between the earth and the atmosphere. The objective of this research is to estimate the volume and carbon content of the aerial biomass of the forest cover of sector two of the experimental farm "La Represa", owned by the State Technical University of Quevedo, belonging to the San Carlos parish, in the Quevedo canton, Los Ríos province. Through a forest census carried out for the present investigation in sector two, which had an area of 6,1048 HA that this sector has, a total of 2.055 trees could be registered, which were distributed in 44 species within 22 different families ; It should be noted that the variety of species that exists in the place is due to the presence of the collection of forest species that the State Technical University of Quevedo has in sector two of the expiremental farm "La Represa"; highlighting in this way as the most representative Guayacán species with 1.039 trees, followed by yellow lizard with 114 trees. A total of 2.025,82 m3 was also obtained, the species with the highest volume were Guayacán with 984,86 m3, and Pachaco with 138,71 m3. By means of the non-destructive method, it was possible to quantify the aerial biomass 2587,76 Tm / total stored in 1.293,88 Tm / total carbon content, the species that had the highest average was pechiche with 373,30 Tm / B and 186,65 Tm / C, followed by pachaco with 189,09 Tm / B and 94,54 Tm / C.
