Тойм:The present study was carried out with the purpose of evaluating the development and growth of the tobacco seedlings planted in different substrates for the improvement of their production in greenhouse. The trial was carried out at the "ECUACAPA S.A." Hacienda, located at Km 2.5 of the Valencia - San Pablo road, Los Ríos province, under a completely randomized design with five treatments in four replicates. Five substrates were evaluated: 70% orchard soil + 20% rice husk + 10% compost, 60% orchard soil + 25% fine sawdust + 10% worm humus + 5% fine sand, 70% 10% fine sawdust + 10% rice husk + 10% coconut fiber, 60% orchard soil + 15% sand + 20% chicken manure + 5% rice husk and commercial BM2 substrate (70-80% Peat stagno fine, fine pearlite and fine vermiculite). Based on the results obtained it was pointed out that the substrates under study, with the exception of 70% of orchard land + 10% fine sawdust + 10% of rice husk + 10% of coconut fiber with a germination percentage of 92.5 %, Did not present a significant difference with the BM2 commercial substrate (96.0%), with values ranging from 95.0 to 95.8%. The root development was higher in the BM2 commercial substratum, with roots with an average length of 10.3 cm. However, that one made up of 70% orchard land + 20% rice husk + 10% compost was similar allowing roots of only 2.91% Below the BM2 substrate. The diameter of the stem was similar in both the BM2 commercial substrate as well as in that of 70% orchard soil + 20% rice husk + 10% compost, with an average of 7.6 mm, however in terms of The height of plants the first showed plants with 23.9 cm of height, surpassing the second in barely a 3.35%. The leaf emission was higher in the commercial substrate BM2, showing the generation of 11 leaves, surpassing in only 1.82% the values registered in the substrate of 70% orchard land + 20% rice husk + 10% compost. The economic benefit was higher in the substrate 70% orchard soil + 10% fine sawdust + 10% rice husk + 10% coconut fiber allowing a 222% yield, however due to the characteristics of the plants obtained in the substrate Of 70% orchard land + 20% rice husk + 10% compost, the latter becomes more important since the yield was not very different with 220%.
