| Gaia: | This technological thesis project focuses on the design, development and evaluation of an electric furnace for heat treatments, one of the main objectives is to improve the efficiency and accuracy in quenching, tempering and annealing processes. To achieve this, an integral approach was used, from the design engineering to the implementation of the furnace in the university laboratory. In the design phase, the principles of conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer were considered, in addition to the thermodynamic characteristics of the materials that undergo heat treatment. Control systems were incorporated to regulate and monitor the temperature inside the internal chamber of the furnace, in order to guarantee uniformity and consistency in the heat treatment processes. Insulation thicknesses of 17.75 cm were obtained for all the furnace and door walls to avoid significant heat losses. The furnace was built and was subjected to hardening and annealing tests to check its operation, where it could be noted that the furnace is obviously functional and ready to perform heat treatments and can be adapted to any type of specimen to be used because it has a chamber of 22 x 20 x 22 cm. This thesis project contributes to the technological advancement of the university and also to the improvement of industrial processes, the implementation of this furnace in the laboratory will mean a great impact for students and teachers who want to dedicate themselves to the different types of heat treatment that exist. |
