description The present project analyzed the performance of software-defined networking (SDN) controllers in environments with real-time streaming services, with the aim of assessing their efficiency, stability, and management capabilities under different load conditions. The research followed a comparative and descriptive approach, with a quantitative and analytical focus, and a non-experimental, longitudinal design, developed entirely within an emulated environment using Mininet. Based on a comparative technical review, the controllers OpenDaylight, Ryu, and ONOS were selected, as they are considered the most representative due to their OpenFlow support, modularity, and compatibility with the aforementioned emulator. A hierarchical topology with 20 Mbps links was implemented, over which the selected controllers were integrated, and a continuous streaming service was used as the main load. The effective video bitrate was determined experimentally to ensure consistency between the generated traffic and the capacity of the links. During the tests, latency, jitter, throughput, packet loss, availability, and memory consumption were measured under three traffic load levels: low, medium, and high. The results showed that Ryu maintained the best balance between speed and stability, ONOS exhibited solid performance though with higher resource usage, and OpenDaylight displayed more variable behavior under congestion. Overall, the study confirmed that the SDN architecture represents an efficient alternative for time-sensitive services and that emulation is an effective tool for comparative evaluation of controllers in reproducible environments.

La investigación fue de tipo comparativa y descriptiva, con un enfoque cuantitativo y analítico, y un diseño no experimental y longitudinal, desarrollada íntegramente en un entorno emulado mediante Mininet. A partir de una revisión técnica comparativa se seleccionaron los controladores OpenDaylight, Ryu y ONOS, considerados los más representativos por su soporte de OpenFlow, modularidad y compatibilidad con el emulador previamente mencionado. Se implementó una topología jerárquica con enlaces de 20 Mbps, sobre la cual se integraron los controladores seleccionados y se empleó un servicio de streaming continuo como carga principal. El bitrate efectivo del video se determinó experimentalmente para garantizar la coherencia entre el tráfico generado y la capacidad de los enlaces. Durante las pruebas se midieron métricas de latencia, jitter, throughput, pérdida de paquetes, disponibilidad y consumo de memoria, bajo tres niveles de carga de tráfico: baja, media y alta. Los resultados demostraron que Ryu mantuvo el mejor equilibrio entre rapidez y estabilidad, ONOS presentó un rendimiento sólido, aunque con mayor uso de recursos, y OpenDaylight mostró un comportamiento más variable ante la congestión.
