Zusammenfassung:Acute Respiratory Infections are one of the most frequent pathological in children under 5 years worldwide and more than 2 million children annually die from the disease .The mortality tends to decrease globally by up to 47% in the last 12. Several factors have contributed to this decline, including vaccination and access to health services at an early stage stand. The estimated incidence of severe acute respiratory infection is 150,7millones of new cases in the world, 7 to 13% require hospitalization and 95% occur in countries. The low income population of children under 1 year and specifically less than 6 months It is the most susceptible SARI requiring hospitalization, management in intensive care units, oxygen dependency and presentation of long-term sequelae. Acute respiratory infections upper airway compromise and tend to be limited self, are the leading cause of school, absenteeism, 90% of these episodes are of viral origin and the rest to other agents such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilusinfluenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae among others. The vast majority of virus causative organisms are particularly rhinovirus (35%), influenza A and B (30%), influenza virus (12%), respiratory syncytial virus (11%) and adenovirus (8%). The main mechanisms of transmission are inhalation of aerosols or droplets with germs and micro inoculation into the nasal, ocular or oral cavity of infected secretions carried by hand mucous. Our study is focused on analyzing the incidence of acute respiratory infections in children under 5 treated at the Hospital of IESS of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, to thereby identify risk factors and reduce mortality, morbidity in children children under 5 years of our country and especially in the Province of Santo Domingo of the Tsáchilas.
