Summary:The objective of this research was to evaluate the agronomic effect of deficit irrigation by aspersion in the cultivation of banana (Musa paradisiaca) variety William. The study took place at the La María campus of the State Technical University of Quevedo, located at kilometer 7.5 of the Quevedo – El Empalme road. Four treatments were evaluated: T1: 40% of ETc; T2: 60% of the ETc; T3: 80% of the ETc and T4: 100% of the ETc, under a randomized complete block design with three repetitions. The results obtained showed that the crop showed a better biophysical behavior when irrigated at 100% of the ETc during the study period, since it registered higher values of the indicators: plant height, pseudostem diameter, foliar emission, total leaves and root weight. With this treatment, greater efficiency was obtained in the use of water on vegetative development with respect to the biophysical indicators evaluated, however, this would not imply a significant effect on the performance indicators, since high levels of water stress would reduce production. Finally, the cost of the application of irrigation between weeks 5 and 16 of crop age occurred in T4: 100 % of the ETc as a direct consequence of the application of a greater volume of water applied to the banana crop through the irrigation system. irrigation.
