The present case study focused on analyzing the nursing interventions applied in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers in a geriatric diabetic patient. Through an exhaustive review of the scientific literature, the high prevalence of pressure ulcers in the elderly population was highlighted, especially in those with diabetes or other chronic diseases. The research began by defining and classifying pressure ulcers, highlighting their impact on the quality of life of patients and their high incidence in the geriatric population. Specific objectives were established to determine how nursing interventions affect the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of pressure ulcers in geriatric diabetic patients in a specific hospital. A detailed clinical case of a 79-year-old patient with Type II Diabetes Mellitus and other comorbidities was presented, describing his symptoms, vital signs and laboratory test results. The discussion focused on the nursing interventions implemented to address the pressure ulcers and urinary tract infection in this patient. In addition, the importance of maintaining hydration, controlling blood glucose and preventing secondary infections was highlighted. The study also emphasized the need for multidisciplinary care and suggested areas for future research in the field. |
