Riassunto:Informal trade includes small businesses or artisanal activities that have their origin in the high unemployment of the countries, in which people have to earn a living in one way or another. For this reason, they have their workplace on the street or in small improvised positions, which generates some problems for the city administration and for citizens in general. This sector can contribute to the development of the entire economy, if the State or cities manage to plan, control and direct an adequate public policy. The present research is based on a study to know what contribution this type of commerce generates in the city of Esmeraldas. For this purpose, the general objective was established to evaluate the contribution of informal commerce to the socioeconomic development of the city of Esmeraldas. The theoretical framework is based on conceptual definitions, theories and legal contributions. The methodology that was applied in the research is the inductive method, deductive analysis and synthesis, as well as the descriptive method. Techniques that were used were the survey and interview. The results of the survey showed that the majority of merchants are dedicated to informal activity due to lack of formal employment, lack of access to education and training and little help from the local government, which is why the local government It must implement policies that help improve the economic and social conditions of informal traders in order to promote formalization
