Engadir etiqueta | Summary: | This research was carried out in the El Limón estuary, Pangua canton, Cotopaxi Province, in the months of November-December (2020) and January-February (2021), in order to identify the influence of agricultural activity on the structure of the aquatic macroinvertebrate communities, for this three sections were established within the Las Damas estuary selected as a control point, due to the presence of agroforestry plantations, unlike the El Limón estuary identified as a site affected by the presence of land use agricultural. For the ecological evaluation of the aquatic macroinvertebrates present in the sampling points, the ecological indices (Shannon, Margalef, Simpson and Jaccard similarity) were applied; In addition, the biological index was used to determine the water quality by means of the BMWP-CR index. Where the results were obtained by using the statistical software PAST 4.0, in which, said ecological values present significant differences between the Las Damas and EL Limón estuaries, showing the control site the highest values within the diversity indices, wealth and dominance of aquatic individuals. The BMWP-Cr index reflected in its results that the El Limón estuary shows good water quality, not contaminated despite the presence of agricultural activities, however, the Las Damas estuary, that the water quality is excellent due to the plantations of secondary forests. In this research project it is proposed to implement a management plan proposal for the recovery of water quality in the El Limón estuary.
