الملخص:The Teca forest species (Tectona grandis L.f.) is considered valuable for the quality of its wood. The high demand worldwide has promoted its cultivation in commercial plantations. However, the quality of many of these plantations justified the start of breeding programs for the species. Improvement programs must start from a great variability and genetic base, being, the use of mutagenesis could be the way forward for teak. For this reason, teak seeds were subjected to concentrations of ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS), in order to induce mutations and to observe the agronomic behavior in the Teca (Tectona grandis Lf) seedlings in the nursery stage. 30 days and 60 days, indicate that the adequate concentration of ethyl methane sulfonate was the treatment (T2) 0.3% + water EMS exposed to 8 hours, resulting in a germination percentage of 67.86% and a height of plant of 17.13 cm. To date, similar works are not reported in seeds of forest species, especially in Teca. Keywords: Improvement, propagation, mutagenic, multiplication, Teca, genetic.
