সংক্ষিপ্ত:Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the greenhouse gases that contributes the most to global warming, this gas is constantly increasing, the current need to conserve forests to reduce the rate of increase of CO2 in the atmosphere requires measurements and monitoring, the starting point being the estimation of biomass in the ecosystem. The objective of this research was to estimate the volumetric and carbon content in the aerial biomass of sector four of the experimental farm La Represa, owned by the State Technical University of Quevedo. The experimental farm La Represa is located in the San Carlos parish, Quevedo, Los Ríos province. A forest census was carried out in 21,27 ha covering sector four. In the research, the calculation of carbon stored in biomass was carried out using the standard established by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), multiplying by the factor of 0,5. In the forest census, 13 families, 18 genera, 18 species and 2.834 individuals were identified; teak was the most representative species with 1.011 individuals and white guayacán with 797 individuals. A total volume of 2.752,39 m3 was obtained, white guayacán presented the highest volume 1.187,37 m3 followed by teak with 870,64 m3. The total aerial biomass was 1.027,18 Tn with a carbon content of 513,61 Tn, the species that presented the highest carbon storage were pachaco with 74,75 Tn / total and grape with 52,68 Tn / total.
