Summary:Water is an indispensable natural resource for the development and survival of living beings on the planet, however, whenever its quality is affected by demand and anthropic activities. The objective of this investigation was to carry out a characterization of chemical and microbiological chemical parameters of the water of the Quevedo River, in order to know the quality of the water due to the discharge of wastewater from the city to the river. Through the analysis performed, the weight of complying with the table in Annex 1 of Ministerial Agreement 097-A will be determined, quantities of contaminants affected will be found, so a biological treatment will be considered by designing a biofilter from California red worm (Eisenia foetida) (T1) duckweed (Lemna minor) (T2) and combination of both treatments (T3), which resulted in the best treatment; treatment 3 (T3), resulting in a COD decrease from 37.25 to 1.07 mg / L, BOD from 44.3 to 2.92 mg / L, total suspended solids from 37.13 to 14 , 90 mg / L, total nutrients from 146.75 to 85.95 mg / L, dissolved oxygen from 1.37 to 3.29 mg / L and fecal coliforms from 137.5 to 20.17 NMP.
