Riassunto:The research was carried out at the "La María" Campus, belonging to the Quevedo State Technical University. The objective of the work was to evaluate the effect of dietary chitosan on liver morphohistology in juvenile red tilapia (Oreochromis x Oreochromis niloticus). Three experimental diets were used with chitosan inclusion at 0 (control), 2 and 4% in red tilapia juveniles. A completely randomized design (CRD) was applied for three treatments with three replicates (experimental tanks) at a density of 15 tilapia juveniles/tank. The culture period lasted 55 days, then the livers were dissected and processed by histology. Significant differences (p < 0.05) were obtained for the variables hepatocyte area, diameter and volume, where the highest average was recorded for T3 (4% chitosan in the diet), respectively. With respect to the variables hepatocyte cytoplasm and hepatocyte cytoplasm/nuclear area ratio (μm2), the highest averages (p <0.05) were presented in the diets with 2% and 4% chitosan inclusion. The highest values in nucleus diameter were reported at T3 (4% chitosan in the diet). In the sinusoid diameters, the highest values were reported by the treatments with chitosan inclusion, with T3 standing out; in the hepatosomatic index (IHS), there was no significant difference (p˃0.05), the highest average was in T2; it can be concluded that the inclusion of chitosan favored hepatic morphohistology.
