Said investigation was carried out with the aim of evaluating the management of hazardous waste and verifying if it causes environmental damage in the circulating area within the Jaime Roldós Aguilera hospital belonging to the Ventanas canton. A survey was conducted to obtain relevant information for this work. Staff working inside the hospital and also people who pass through this place, to determine if they have knowledge of hazardous waste; what type of management is given and finally identify the sites where they are deposited. A sample of 60 people who work at the Jaime Roldós Aguilera Hospital and 155 people from the surroundings was selected. Once the survey was carried out and with the help of descriptive statistics, it was presented in simple tables of absolute and percentage distribution, in which it was possible to determine that there are people who do not have knowledge about this topic, and others who do, but present certain gaps. Of the 155 people surveyed, in the surroundings of the Jaime Roldós Aguilera hospital, 52% of those surveyed, that is (80 people) if they know what hazardous hospital waste is, 16% of those surveyed which would be (25 people) do not know anything Regarding the issue of waste, that is, they have never heard this term and a total of 32% of respondents (50 people) know that they exist but do not have knowledge of their classification and effects that it can cause if they are not handled in an adequate way. It is for this reason that it was concluded to carry out a training aimed at all the personnel in general of the Jaime Roldós Aguilera Hospital, on a good practice of waste disposal. The main objective of this training is 1) to point out the necessary information that they are hazardous waste. 2) Describe what damage hazardous waste can cause. 3) Indicate the handling of waste of this type.
