| Izvleček: | This research consisted in the physicochemical and microbiological characterization of the waters of the Quevedo River, province of Los Ríos, in order to determine its compliance with the national regulations and their quality for different uses. Methodologically, a journey was made in the course of the river Quevedo and its banks, from 100 meters before the Velasco Ibarra bridge, to 100 meters after the Walter Andrade Fajardo bridge, which allowed to identify 10 discharges located on the river banks; A total of 12 water samples were taken in the months of January, February and March of 2017, 4 before the Velasco bridge, 4 in the sewage discharge located under the Quevedo malecon, and 4 after the Walter Andrade Fajardo Bridge , All with a frequency of fifteen days. Also, laboratory analyzes were carried out to determine the parameters: Hydrogen Potential, Dissolved Oxygen, BOD5, Fecal Coliforms, Total Coliforms, Suspended Solids, Nitrates, Phosphates, Chlorides, Color, Turbidity, Temperature, Electrical Conductivity, Conductivity and Hardness. The results obtained established that the fecal coliform parameters and color did not comply with the environmental standard throughout the sampling period, however also the BOD5 was slightly high in some cases. The NSF quality index showed that the water was of poor quality for upstream and downstream, Dinius (1987) determined a range corresponding to contaminated water, implying a risk for the lives of the animals that live there and the people who use them This feature. Finally, the Streeter Phelps model was developed with a single sampling of the sewage discharges to determine OD and BOD5 values. Within the investigation, it has been shown that the discharges located on the banks of the Quevedo river have a significant influence on water quality, mainly in color parameters and fecal coliforms. |
