| Riassunto: | DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a family of high-speed data transmission Technologies that uses the twisted pair in the access network, and which connects the user to the network node. That is to say, they are last mile solutions whose advantage lies in the use of common telephone lines to satisfy the increasing demand of speed by users and which reduce costs and installation time. This makes DSL a promising technology since in some cases it helps to do without the costly optical fiber for many applications, which require considerable bandwidth. Not all twisted pairs can be employed for xDSL support, not even those already selected can be used for all applications. The selection of the copper twisted pairs will be conditioned by the tests that allow to characterize them according to a group of pre- established parameters which define their optimal functioning. This process is known as copper pair pre-qualification. Currently applied tests for pre-qualifying networks for xDSL access are rather poor since the necessary instruments are not readily available as a result of their high cost. For this reason the main goal of this work is to integrate many of the available procedures and also include up-to-date techniques for digital signal processing such as the Wavelet transform. |
