| Shrnutí: | The objective of this research project it was estimate the risk posed by natural disasters in the most vulnerable productive sectors of the Babahoyo canton and to assess the incidence of natural disasters on the sustainability of rice and banana crops. To carry out this study, information was collected from 300 families (250 rice farmers and 50 banana farmers), obtaining a stratified sample size of 143 rice and 29 bananas. The primary sources corresponded to the analysis of disasters of hydrometeorological origin, to the compilation of databases of flooded hectares and production losses. The banana is more sustainable by the implementation of human, technical and physical resources, the land that the banana plantations are technified on the level of the road, has channeling, protection wall in the rivers, during the floods use pumps, their recovery is fast, they have control of pests and diseases after the floods. A very different scenario is the rice farmers during the floods do not act, they expect the government to help them, they are in flood zones and unprotected river fences, some in ciénegas without channeling, their recovery is slow, until reaching the point of completely lose the crops. The rice farmers must have a risk management plan for floods they are the most affected, they do not have training, flood control system, they are not insured before natural disasters, which is necessary that the technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock train them not to carry out their plantings in risk areas.
