| Summary: | This research was conducted at two sites in the province of Los Ríos; on the grounds of Agricultural Technological Institute of Vinces (ITAV), and the experimental farm "La Represa" property of the State Technical University Quevedo. The objective was to determine the growth behavior of T. grandis Linn F. (teak) and T. cumingianaFisch. &Mey. (fernansánchez) in agroforestry systems in the towns of Quevedo and Vinces. The study was conducted in a teak plantation and fernansánchez four years of age in these towns, in 6 experimental units of 1296 m2 each, three for teak and three for fernansánchez; lasted 12 months, when the trial was established soil sample were taken at both sites, and sent to the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) for examination. To determine fifth year increments every six months mensuration data was recorded; for the IMA and ICA five years data recorded in previous years were used. The six-month growth present significant difference between species and localities; the best was averaged for Teak and was the best location for Quevedo. THE IMA had the highest value for the species T. grandis and locality higher value was Quevedo. The ICA was higher for Teak two locations in the five years recorded. The growth of T. grandis and T. cuminguiana, in the towns of Quevedo and Vinces, presented results that are within range of growth reported in the literature. These results suggest that fernansánchez teak and can be used in cacao agroforestry systems in areas with similar conditions of Quevedo. |
