Summary:Solid waste management is one of the most common environmental problems worldwide, due to the great impact they have on the environment and people's health as a result of improper management, therefore, measures and processes are applied to reduce the impact caused by solid waste and improve the quality of life of the community in general. Therefore, in the Luz de America parish, a means of control will be applied, reducing negative activities and environmental impacts caused by poor solid waste management. The present investigation determined the current situation of the management of household solid waste by the community, through an interview addressed to the secretary of the parish GAD and a survey of 124 inhabitants of the parish, where 56% of those surveyed stated that they received the collection service from the operators and 65% are satisfied with the collection service. Through the characterization of solid waste, it was obtained that 59% of the waste generation is organic, that is, this waste is the most generated in the Luz de America parish. The Solid Waste Management Plan proposal seeks to minimize the negative activities and customs of the population through environmental training programs for schools, colleges, campuses, communes, among others, the storage and separation of solid waste in containers or baskets according to its physical composition for recycling, the use of organic waste as fertilizer to implement it in family gardens. The approach of this proposal is very important because some inhabitants of the parish do not have knowledge about waste management, for this reason, good management and use of Solid Waste is important to improve the quality of life of the population Keywords: Waste characterization, good practices, environmental impact, environmental education, waste use.
