Zusammenfassung:This research was developed in Tingo, canton Pujilí, province of Cotopaxi, and had the purpose of characterizing the communities of aquatic macroinvertebrates and water quality of the Puembo Grande river. The monitoring was developed during three months from January to March (2018), for which three land uses were established; forest plantation, agricultural crop and pasture. The monitoring of the macroinvertebrates was carried out with a "Red D-net" which is used in moderately torrentuous rivers through which one can walk; In addition, three replicas were made for each sampling point, each point will have a distance of 100m, with a standardized collection time of 30 minutes. The preservation and labeling of collected aquatic macroinvertebrate samples were placed in glass jars, with 70% alcohol, which must completely cover the entire sample collected. The samples collected were labeled with the date and description of the sampling point; the specimens were identified by means of stereoscopes and taxonomic keys of Roldan and Domínguez and Fernández (2009), in the microbiology laboratory of the UTEQ. For the ecological assessment of the current state of the estuaries, the BMWP-Cr index was applied; the ecological indexes (Shannon, Margalef, Jaccard and Simpson), the fluvial habitat index (IHF) and the quality index of the Ribera Forest (QBR) were used in order to evaluate both the characteristics of their physical habitat and the state of In addition, the analysis of canonical correspondence was developed where the physical - chemical parameters are related to the abundance of aquatic macroinvertebrates. The results obtained in the composition and diversity of families of aquatic macroinvertebrates, as well as the water quality of the Puembo Grande River, through the three months of sampling, a total of 1404 individuals were collected; it was determined that the use of soil with the greatest diversity of macroinvertebrates were: in (forest plantation), 519 individuals were found, which are distributed in 11 orders, 32 families and 43 genera of aquatic macroinvertebrates, in addition they are in microhabitat of waters with slow and fast currents and on types of litter substrates and stones. The fluvial habitat index of the river presented a "Moderate - Deficient" water quality range.
