| Achoimre: | The objective of this study was the quantification of carbon stored in Tectona grandis plantations in the Quevedo and Balzar cantons. For the execution of this work, four farms were selected in each canton with plantations in ages from 10 to 12 years. In each farms four parcels were settled down; inside the parcels four points of sampling of 1 m2 were pointed out for the fine necromass and another of 25 m2 for the thick necromass; also, in the center of the parcel a pit of 1 m2 and 60 cm of depth was carried out in order to take samples of the floor. To determine the content of carbon two representative trees were cut down in each parcel. The studied variables were as follow: diameter to the chest height (DAP), commercial height (HC), total height (HT), active organic carbon of the air biomass (shaft, branches, leaves, fine and thick necromass) and of the floor (roots and floor). The averages of volume and total carbon stored in plantations of T. grandis presented significant differences. The averages of total volume were of 0,5270 m3 and 0,4148 m3, for Quevedo and Balzar, respectively; the averages of stored total carbon were of 113,80 t ha-1 and 79,26 t ha-1 for Quevedo and Balzar, respectively. The correlation between the content of carbon and the floor depth was of negative tendency in the two cantons. This information about storage of carbon will serve as reference to establish values for the environmental services payments. |
