| Summary: | Septic shock is a serious and life-threatening condition caused by the body's imbalanced response to infection. One of the rare but important causes of septic shock is gallstone ileus, a type of intestinal obstruction caused by gallstones in the small or large intestine. When this blockage occurs, it can lead to a number of complications, including the release of bacteria into the bloodstream, causing an exaggerated systemic inflammatory response called sepsis. This case study examines the nursing management of septic shock secondary to gallstone ileus in a geriatric patient with multiple complications, in order to ensure quality care and patient safety in a complex clinical situation. The patient, a 73-year-old woman with a history of gallstones, was admitted with abdominal pain, constipation, and vomiting. A retrospective study was performed, of which clinical evaluation revealed intestinal obstruction and significant findings in laboratory examinations. Various nursing interventions will be implemented, such as pain control, blood clotting management, respiratory support, and comprehensive care. Despite the efforts of the healthcare and nursing team, the patient continued to experience complications, including progressive respiratory deterioration and persistent abdominal pain. Finally, on May 30, 2023, the patient died. This case highlights the complexity of medical care in geriatric patients with multiple complications and highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and comprehensive evaluation. Lessons learned include the need for effective communication, adaptive pain management, and patient-centered care. Furthermore, this study provides a basis for future research related to the management of geriatric patients in similar clinical situations |
